Our HR Manager Carole Hamnett-Sadler recently completed her annual Cancer Research UK's Race for Life at Heaton Park (17th July), continuing a long-running (pardon the pun) tradition of raising money for the cancer charity.
Under some very warm and challenging conditions, Carole completed her 5km run around Heaton Park in a very respectable 53 minutes 12 seconds. Carole's been taking part in the Race for Life most years since 2009, and has raised over £8,000 in that time. At the moment Carole's total for this year's event stands at over £425 but we'd really like to increase that!
She swapped challenges in 2018 when she joined the 'Hill's Angels' to brave the Pretty Muddy obstacle race, also for Cancer Research.
And it was Carole who first instigated our involvement in the Wear It Pink campaign, which we've supported for six years now will no doubt be involved with later this year.
She said: "While our fundraising activities are fun, there are serious reasons behind supporting cancer charities. Cancer's had a personal effect on me and the data suggests that one in two people born after 1960 will be diagnosed with some form of cancer during their lifetime, affecting them and their families.
"People doing this kind of thing, and raising money for these charities, is just lovely. Cancer research is improving all the time, with better treatments, increasing awareness and an emphasis on promoting active, healthy lifestyles that may prevent cases in the future. It's just so important."
