Our 5-a-side team dusted off their boots and got back into shape for an exciting 5-a-side football match against Mahdlo Youth Zone, an Oldham based centre which aims to provide young people in Oldham access to top quality, safe and affordable facilities in which to spend their leisure time.
The game was a true test of experience versus youth, as Mahdlo showcased some of their brightest young stars, whilst HPP feature a few of our 5-a-side veterans, including Stuart Hyde, Mick Lever, Shankar Das, Shaun Nolan, Martin Kennedy and goal keeper, Mark Staines.
As a founding patron of the innovative scheme, HPP are involved in supporting and fundraising on behalf of the facility, and this 5-a-side match did exactly that. The match helped to raise further awareness of the centre and generate additional funds to keep it running and helping the youth of Oldham.
The match, being played in 3, 20 minute periods, was contested at Mahdlo Youth Zone in Oldham on the 22nd of July. HPP dominated the first period which ended with HPP holding a promising lead of 7 goals to 1 but the second period was more evenly fought with Mahdlo Youth coming back into the game. The final 20 minutes became a damage limitation exercise for HPP as Mahdlo Youth relentlessly pressed on whilst the 'more experienced' HPP team started to feel the strain. The referees final whistle couldn't come soon enough for the flagging HPP vets who just managed to hold out to earn a hard fought victory! One goal separated the two teams at full time with a final score of 14-13 to HPP!
